One of the most fulfilling, humbling, and distinguished events in my life also defined and challenged me. It was when Marina gave me a new name.

My Rock.

Some of the sweetest yet strangely familiar words flowed from her mouth as she explained what I brought into her life and how I complemented her. The words were sweet because they came from her heart. They were familiar because for the first time the essence of my character and identity was verbalized.

It cemented within me a focus and gave me definition, the way that new words label preexisting feelings and bring the order of language to a toddler’s mind. Since then, I have been on a purposeful journey to learn and embrace the Rock that I am. It is about self-discovery, but it is even more so about allowing it to be shaped and to grow in strength for her, our kids, and others that I love.

A Rock is Strong

A Rock is strong and powerful, unmoving in the face of opposition, can bear extreme pressure, and can withstand shear forces. A Rock maintains its integrity despite the changing environment, remains grounded where it is planted, keeps itself whole, and can weather any storm.
